South Burlington closed out a perfect season in the best possible fashion, a third straight state championship victory as the No. 2 seeded Rebels defeated No. 9 ranked Stowe 6-1. Marco Cepeda kicked things off for his team with a 6-0, 6-1 singles victory over Stowe’s Sam Slavas, followed by teammate Gabe Katz 6-1, 6-2 victory over Tyler Mullin. The No. 1 doubles team of Ben Price and David Kunin gave the Rebels a boost in a hard fought 6-4, 7-5 doubles win over Luke O’Toole and Calvin Dixon, while Jack Graham handily defeated Noah Mihan 6-0, 6-0 to give South Burlington a commanding lead. In the No. 3 singles match, South Burlington’s Matt Jenkins beat Stowe’s Tim Gallagher 6-0, 7-6, (7-2), while the Rebel’s Eli Rachlin defeated Stowe’s Evan Roberts 6-1, 6-3. Stowe’s lone win of the afternoon came via the double’s team of Tavish Wadell and Carl La Barbara, who defeated South Burlington’s Philip Nerber and David Manitsky 6-4, 6-3. With the win, South Burlington wraps up its undefeated season as 20-0 and lays claim to its state-record twenty-first championship title!
