South Burlington voters showed strong support for a much needed upgrade to the city’s public safety communications equipment. The August 9 ballot item was approved by 3,252 votes in favor of the $1.9 million bond which will allow a replacement of all public safety radio apparatus; 906 citizens voted against the article. This investment will provide digital equipment that meets current FCC P25 standards, replacing outdated and unreliable equipment. The underlying system itself does not need to be replaced and continues to serve the city’s needs. The new system is projected to last fifteen years and will also create a disaster recovery plan for the city.
