Three South Burlington teams showed off their paddling prowess August 5 at the Lake Champlain Dragon Boat Festival. Overall, 59 teams raced over a 200 meter course under sunny skies at Burlington’s Waterfront Park.

The Community Bank Hakuna Matatas won their first round race with an impressive 1:03:41. In their quarter final race, the team put up a valiant effort against the powerful United Technologies Boats of Glory falling by just one second.

The PC Paddlers from PC Construction fielded a strong crew, winning their opening round race with a blazing time of 58:57. In their quarter final race, they faced last year’s Champ Cup winners WND & WVS. The defending champs put on an awesome show of power and speed, dispatching the PC Paddlers crew with a time of 51:22.

After a disappointing first round race time of 1:06:94, the Allscripts & Friends team redeemed themselves in the quarter finals with a time of 1:00:95 to win a berth in the semi-finals. Facing a strong North Star Leasing crew, the Allscripts club lost time off the start and ended their race placing second with a time of 1:06:94.

The WND & WVS crew repeated as Champ Cup winners with a time of 52:06. The Lake Champlain Dragon Boat Festival has raised over $2 million for local cancer survivor organizations. This year’s proceeds go to the University of Vermont Medical Center Alternative Therapies Program and Dragonheart Vermont.
