Martin LaLonde has announced that he is running for re-election as the state representative for Chittenden District 7-1. LaLonde hopes to return to Montpelier for a third term in the Vermont House of Representatives to continue to address issues important to South Burlington residents. He seeks the opportunity to use his experiences as a legislator, school board member, attorney, and father to continue to advance the interests of all Vermonters.
For the past four years, LaLonde has served on the House Judiciary Committee, and says he hopes to continue to contribute to legislation that enhances public safety, improves access to justice, and protects due process and privacy rights. He also closely tracked and worked on other concerns outside the purview of the Judiciary Committee, including environmental issues such as the water quality of Lake Champlain and climate change. “Much more needs to be done to ensure that future generations inherit a livable planet,” LaLonde said. “I want to continue to be a part of a team of legislators advocating for action now.”
In addition, education issues are of particular interest to LaLonde, who is serving his third term on the South Burlington district’s school board and is also on the board of the Vermont School Boards Association. He says, “I have sought to ensure that Vermont continues to offer quality public education statewide at a cost that taxpayers can support and would continue to pursue that goal if re-elected.”
LaLonde notes he considers it a privilege to serve South Burlington at the State House. “Being able to assist people with issues involving state government agencies has been particularly gratifying,” he said. “I have enjoyed discussing policy with residents at my weekly breakfasts and on Town Meeting Day at the Orchard polling station. I have also enjoyed visiting with neighbors at their homes when I am distributing end-of-session reports or campaigning and exchanging emails and phone calls with interested community members.” LaLonde says he hopes to continue his efforts on behalf of South Burlington and Vermont and to earn the district’s continued support as he seeks re-election.
LaLonde, his wife Anne, and their two children, Griffin and Tess, live on Four Sisters Road with their black lab and two cats. To read more about his views and work in the legislature, he advised that people can visit his website.
