Wanda Audette of South Burlington represented Lund (formerly Lund Family Center) in accepting a KidSafe Collaborative Award for Outstanding Collaboration. The award recognized Project Family, a joint project of Lund and the Vermont Department for Children and Families (DCF). The initiative has had a dramatic effect on the adoption process in Vermont, including finding homes for children sometimes described as “unadoptable.” As Co-Directors of the project, Ms. Audette and Diane Dexter of DCF jointly accepted the award at KidSafe’s 23rd Annual Awards luncheon, held at the Sunset Ballroom. Governor Peter Shumlin attended along with more than 250 social workers, health care professionals, human services providers, teachers and volunteers as well as business and community leaders.
The event host, the KidSafe Collaborative, is a Chittenden County non-profit that works with dozens of partner agencies, individuals and organizations to improve our community’s response to child abuse and neglect. The Awards event coincides with national Prevent Child Abuse month each April. While the event serves as a major fundraiser for the KidSafe Collaborative, its priority is honoring the Award recipients, and recognizing all who help support families in order to improve child safety.
