Charlie Baker, Executive Director of the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission and a resident of South Burlington, has been elected to the Housing Vermont Board of Directors.
“Charlie’s recent experience directing the ECOS plan for managing sustainable growth in Chittenden County combined with his public policy and community development skills will complement the talents of the other Board members,” said Board Chair Janet Spitler. “Both the Board and staff look forward to working with him.”
Housing Vermont, a nonprofit syndication and development company founded in 1988, creates permanently affordable rental housing for Vermonters through partnerships with local organizations, public agencies and the private sector. This highly successful partnership has produced more than 4,800 affordable apartments in 155 developments.
Charlie served on South Burlington’s Affordable Housing Committee this past year and is Chair of the Vermont Association of Planning and Development Agencies. Before joining CCRPC in 2008, he was the General Manager for New Castle County (Delaware) Department of Land Use for eight years in charge of planning, development review, stormwater plan review, building inspections, property assessment, and code enforcement with a staff of 150. While there, he led efforts to develop two county comprehensive development plans, adopt low impact development stormwater and conservation design laws, improve redevelopment laws, and adopt inclusionary housing legislation. Charlie earned a bachelor’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Cornell University and did graduate work at both Cornell University and Rutgers University.
