While Harvest Festival was in full swing at Shelburne Farms, four Shelburne Explorers 4-H Club members were showing their Brown Swiss at The Big E. They were chosen for the interstate competition based on their results at the 4-H Dairy shows at Addison County, Champlain Valley Exposition and the State Dairy 4-H show.
Courtney Banach of South Burlington was part of the 35-member Vermont delegation that traveled to Springfield, MA to show in the New England 4-H Dairy Show. Banach won her Fitting and Showmanship Class and also took Junior Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Brown Swiss.
Many months of work training, grooming and working with their animals went into their success. Like the other members of the Shelburne Explorers 4-H Club, Banach leases a calf from the Shelburne Farms herd to participate in the 4-H program and comes to the farm to learn about care and showing of cattle from her club leaders. 4-H Club leader Susie Marchand said, “Everyone worked really hard all season to get to this point and did an amazing job both in and out of the ring representing Vermont and Shelburne Farms!”
