On a chilly Saturday morning more than one hundred children and their parents participated in Chamberlin’s Bike Safety Rodeo.   The Rodeo event took place on Saturday April 13th from 10a.m.-12 noon at the school.

The children spent the morning enthusiastically rotating through several stations learning about bike safety checks and maintenance, riding through a slalom course, rock dodge, and crazy crossroads, and decorating their helmets with reflective safety stickers.

The last station, the bike blender, was one of the children’s favorites, and drew a crowd. The children had to pedal the blender bike to make their healthy smoothie which they then got to enjoy!
Chamberlin’s Safe Routes to School Team coordinated this event to help introoduce the idea of a greener footprint, and to promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles. One of the Team’s goals is to have more children walk and bike to school.

The South Burlington Police Department, Local Motion and the Chamberlin PTO worked together to truly make this a community event. Earl’s Cyclery & Fitness and Stephen Sands from Horace Mann Insurance Company contributed to the success of the Rodeo by  donating two fantastic bicycles for a raffle.  The winners of the drawing for the bikes were Grace Neudecker and Carson Asava.
