South Burlington resident Shane Bufano has recently been recognized by the Vermont Soccer Association (VSA) as Coach of the Year (Girls Competitive) for his work with the Queen City U-15/16 Girls Club team. He is the Director of Coaching and founder of the Queen City Football Club (FC).
Bufano received the VSA Coach of the Year award Saturday, November 23, during the VSA’s Annual General Meeting held at the DoubleTree in South Burlington. The Vermont Club Soccer award recipients are selected by the VSA from across the entire state. The noted “Girls Competitive” team is a U15/16 team, and is called “Queen City FC - U-15/16 Girls Club.” In their first year as a team, they went undefeated in the Vermont Soccer League for the U-16 VSL Division 2 and were league champions.
Bufano has made Queen City Football Club an officially sanctioned part of the Vermont Soccer Association. Queen City FC started 4 years ago as a feeder system for SBHS teams. It since has become another “club” level team to help provide an affordable option for area players who want to play year round. There are currently 10 teams ranging in age from U12-U18, and consisting of about 75-80 percent South Burlington residents. The club also hosts a South Burlington only “JR Training Academy” in the winter for boys and girls ages 7-10 (U-8 and U-10), to help out the South Burlington Strikers program.
Bufano’s vision is to help strengthen and teach technical and tactical soccer skills to South Burlington youth soccer players, as well as players from neighboring towns, while providing the opportunity to train year round and foster love of the game. Clearly, he is making that possible for many keen young soccer enthusiasts.
Bufano has been involved with coaching and playing soccer in the state of Vermont for the past 16 years. In 2010, Bufano became the head coach of the South Burlington High School Boys JV Soccer team. He also assists Varsity Coach David Martin.
In addition to his many coaching responsibilities, Bufano is the newly appointed Vice President of Marketing and Development for the Vermont Soccer Association (www.vermontsoccer.org).
