Michael Dabroski, South Burlington resident and co-Artistic Director of the Burlington Ensemble invites you to mark your calendar for the 2013 Summer Serenades Schedule. The Summer Serenades concerts will feature a three-week festival of ten chamber music performances in late July and August, performed by world-class musicians in some of Vermont’s most stunning venues, including four concerts at Shelburne Farms and concerts at All Souls Interfaith Gathering, Basin Harbor Club, West Monitor Barn in Richmond and Castleton State College. Concert proceeds are used to pay professional musicians performing in the upcoming Burlington Ensemble “90/10 Series” benefit concerts supporting local non-profit organizations.
Artistic Directors Sofia Hirsch and Michael Dabroski chose July 23’s “OPENING NIGHT” to begin the three weeks of summer music as part of a mini-concert series at Shelburne Farms, highlighting a short wedding composition by Jean Sibelius, three rustic concertos by Antonio Vivaldi, and concluding with a highly romanticized octet by Max Bruch. “GYSPSY NIGHT” features works by Brahms and Bartok that combine classical and folk idiomatic styles. “CAFE NIGHT” music sizzles with passionate elements likely to inspire blushing moments within the audience. Concerts held at Shelburne Farms will benefit VT FEED.
Moving down the road in Shelburne for a three mini-concert series at All Souls Interfaith Gathering, “PHANTASY NIGHT” celebrates the 100th birth year anniversary of Benjamin Britten, a viola quintet by R. Vaughan Williams, and closes with the mystical Clarinet Quintet by Brahms. “A MIDSUMMER NIGHT” pokes light fun at the Mendelssohn and Shakespeare connection. “ALL MOZART NIGHT” comprises three substantial chamber music compositions by W.A. Mozart, including two quartets utilizing oboe and flute, and a mature string trio.
“STARRY NIGHT” is the final four mini-concert series held at Basin Harbor Club, West Monitor Barn, Castleton State College and Shelburne Farms. Stars will abound as the concert program highlights a concerto for bass by Bottesini, and music by film composer Bernard Hermann (noted composer of Psycho, North by Northwest, etc.), and Mendelssohn’s Octet.
