Cathy Seward of South Burlington has joined the University of Vermont swimming and diving team as the new diving coach this season.

“I am very pleased and excited that Cathy has been named our new diving coach,” said Head Coach Gerry Cournoyer, also a resident of South Burlington. “Cathy comes to Vermont with a wealth of knowledge and great personal experience as a diver herself. I feel that she can help take our program to the next level.”

Seward is a 1977 graduate of Bucknell University, where she was an All-American (small college division) diver for both the one- and three-meters as a senior. She was inducted into the Bucknell Hall of Fame in 1993 and also was the diving coach at Saint Michael’s for 13 seasons before joining the Catamounts.

“I am very excited to have this opportunity to work with a talented group of Division I college divers on a team that values their commitment to a sport I love,” said Seward.

Seward replaced Carrie Pucko, who was the diving coach at Vermont for five seasons.

“We are sad that Carrie will be moving on,” said Cournoyer. “She has done a great job rebuilding our diving program into a very competitive one within our conference.”
