David Coats of South Burlington has been made a partner at Kelliher Samets Volk (KSV), a Burlington-based marketing firm.
Coats, who joined KSV in 2010, got his start as a writer with The Richards Group, the largest independently owned agency in the US, working on brands including Motel 6 and TGI Friday’s. More recently, Coats served as VP and executive creative director at Dallas-based Slingshot, where he led integrated creative efforts for brands like Jack Daniels, Greyhound Lines, and Dave & Busters.
The partnership at KSV was extended to Coats after just over two years serving as executive creative director. During his time with KSV, he has led creative efforts for all clients while also playing a key role in new business wins such as Acorn Footwear, Okemo Mountain Resort, and Mass Save. His team’s work has been recognized regionally and nationally by Communication Arts, The New England Ad Club, The Webbys and The Bell Ringer Awards.
In his new role, Coats will work with founding partners Linda Kelliher and Yoram Samets to chart the company’s vision for the future. In addition to overseeing creative efforts, Coats will continue in his overall leadership role with the company.
“I am excited to welcome David as a partner as we begin to set the course for the next generation of leaders at KSV, with David being the first,” said Yoram Samets, managing director at KSV. “He brings an incredible spirit with him. His talent and energy will serve our clients, our employees and our company immensely well.”
“There is something so special and so unique about getting to do what we do in a place like Vermont, and at an agency like KSV, said Coats. They have done an amazing job attracting great talent and great clients over the years. It’s an honor to be given the chance to build on that legacy, and to help take KSV to all new heights.”
