George Donovan has announced he is running for a seat on the South Burlington City Council. He is a 27-year resident of South Burlington and an active community member. While living in South Burlington, he has developed a rewarding career as a civilian employee of the Army National Guard, met & married his wife Robin, and together they have raised three daughters. All of the Donovan children are alumni of Chamberlin Elementary School and are attending, or attended, South Burlington High School. He was born in Barre, attended Spaulding High School and Champlain College before putting down roots here on Kirby Road. The Donovans remain happy residents of their Chamberlin neighborhood. He has served as the President of the Chamberlin Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization (Lay Family of the Year - 2012), 7 years of involvement in the South Burlington Rotary, 2 years as a Chamberlin School mentor, and is an active member of the SB Recreation and Leisure Arts Committee.
He is running to help South Burlington continue to be a great place for all our families to live and grow up together, for many years to come. He is encouraged and excited with the many topics being discussed by the city council and sees how they mirror the vibrancy of our community. Development of City Center, green energy initiatives, public transit, future of our airport, new options for our schools, park spaces, recreation events, and support for law enforcement/fire and rescue services are just a sample of the important conversations to which he wants to contribute his positive voice. He firmly believes that the city council can work together to combine the best of what everyone involved has to offer to bring forth solutions that benefit our entire community. He is dedicated to forming policy that will encourage people to come visit, shop, dine, work and want to live here in South Burlington.
His intent is to promote growth without increasing the tax burden to South Burlington property owners, exercising caution and fiscal restraint. He believes that many of the objectives of our city can and should be accomplished leveraging creative partnerships with area investors, residents and partners. Continuing a path of responsible growth will strengthen the foundation of our city; create a broad tax base, helping to ensure a bright future.
George would love to hear from you, the South Burlington community, about what you are looking for in your next city councilor. Please reach out to him and give him your voice on what’s important to you and how he could earn your vote this coming March.
