Twenty teams and 774 swimmers participated in the 2016 championship meet held August 6 and 7 at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center in White River Junction, Vermont, and The EDGE Swim Club came home with top honors and its 3rd consecutive D-1 win. The team, which includes more than 30 swimmers from South Burlington, displayed excellent sportsmanship throughout the meet as they set records, marked top overall individual finishes, and were members of winning relay teams.

Many South Burlington residents helped lead the EDGE to victory. Sebastian Bronk took 2nd place in the boys 8&U 25-yard butterfly, and is a member of two winning relay teams; 100-yard medley and freestyle placed 1st. Alyssa Cady placed 2nd in all 4 of her events: girls 11-12 100-yard individual medley, 50-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle, and the 100-yard freestyle. Ally was also a member of the 1st place girls 12&U 200-yard medley relay. Miles Cochrane took 2nd in the boys 13-14 50-yard butterfly, and 3rd place in the 50-yard backstroke. Miles was also a member of the 14&U boys 200-yard medley and freestyle relays, both of which placed 1st. Sierra Fisher placed 2nd in the girls 12&Under 100-yard butterfly, and was also a member of the 1st-place girls 12&Under 200-yard medley relay. Rowan Grosselfinger took 2nd place in the boys 11-12 100-yard individual medley and was a member of the 1st place boys 12&U 200-yard medley relay. Katrina Khosravi placed 2nd in the girls 13-14 50-yard freestyle, and placed 3rd in the 50-yard butterfly. Katrina was also a member of the 1st place 14&U 200-yard medley relay. Sophia Khosravi placed 2nd in the girls 15-16 50-yard backstroke and was a member of the 1st place 18&U girls 200-yard freestyle relay. Andrea Pinga placed 3rd in three events. She placed 3rd in the girls 15-16 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, and 50-yard backstroke.

Nathan Kakalec was a triple winner. Nathan placed 1st in the boys 17-18 50-yard breaststroke, 200-yard individual medley, and the 100-yard breaststroke.

Joaquin Pinga was a quadruple winner. He also set a new state record in the boys 13-14 50-yard freestyle and placed 1st in the 50-yard free, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard free, and 100-yard freestyle. Joaquin was also a member of the 14&U boys 200-yard medley and freestyle relays, both of which placed 1st.
Last week, at the Sam Fishman pool in Vergennes, 8 teams and over 500 swimmers competed at the 2016 Champlain Valley Swim League (CVSL) Championship meet. The EDGE Swim Club cruised to its third straight league title with a score of 2,960 points over the second-place TEST with 1,951.5 points, while setting 8 new meet records.
Joaquin Pinga highlighted the performances of South Burlington swimmers with his three meet records in the 200, 100, and 50-yard freestyle events. Joaquin was also a member of both record-setting relays for the EDGE 14&U boys. In addition to Pinga’s efforts, Sebastian Bronk placed 3rd in the 50-yard freestyle and 1st in the 25-yard butterfly and was also a member of both boys 8&U winning relay teams. Ally Cady was a triple winner in the meet. Ally placed 1st in the girls 12&U 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle, and the 50-yard freestyle, and was a member of both 12&U girls winning relays. Miles Cochrane,after completing just his first calendar year of participating on the team, placed 3rd in the boys 14&U 100-yard individual medley, and placed 1st in both the 50-yard butterfly and 50-yard backstroke. Miles was also a member of both record-setting boys 14&U relays. Lilla Erdos placed 2nd in the girls 12&U 50-yard breaststroke.Sierra Fisher placed 3rd in the girls 12&U 100-yard individual medley and 2nd in the 50-yard butterfly. Sierra was also a member of the 12&U girls winning medley relay. Rowan Grosselfinger placed 2nd in the boys 12&U 100-yard individual medley. Jane Kakalec placed 3rd in the girls 12&U 200-yard freestyle. Nathan Kakalec placed 3rd in the boys 18&U 100-yard butterfly, 2nd in the 200-yard individual medley, and 1st in the 100-yard breaststroke. Nathan was also a member of both winning 18&U relays, including their record setting performance in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Katrina Khosravi placed 2nd in both the girls 14&U 50-yard butterfly and 50-yard freestyle. Katrina also placed 3rd in the 50-yard backstroke and was a member of both 14&U girls winning relay teams. Sophia Khosravi placed 2nd in the girls 18&U 100-yard backstroke and was a member of both 18&U girls winning relay teams. Riley Machanic was a member of both 12&U girls winning relay teams. Elsa Olafsdottir placed 3rd in the girls 8&U 50-yard freestyle and 2nd in the 25-yard backstroke. Elsa was also a member of the 8&U girls 100-yard freestyle relay that placed 1st. Andrea Pinga placed 3rd in the girls 18&U 100-yard individual medley. Cindy Yang was a member of both the girls 14&U winning relays.
