Several hundred community members were in attendance at the South Burlington Energy Prize Kick-Off Party at F.H. Tuttle Middle School on Saturday, January 24. For the South Burlington Energy Committee and their 18 Sustainability Partners, along with councilors, legislators, residents, students, and kids of all ages, it was a great day of energy for energy! Participants received valuable information and tips from experts, sipped on pedal-powered smoothies and enjoyed taking part in this community-wide effort.
The committee expressed gratitude to all who were there to learn how to reduce their own energy use and to actively support the city’s quest for the Georgetown University Energy Prize. The City of South Burlington is a semi-finalist in this national energy competition; finalists will be chosen in early 2017, and a $5 million prize will be awarded at the end of 2017 to the winning community.
There will continue to be ways to get involved, including an upcoming series of workshops, a neighborhood block challenge, and many opportunities to volunteer!
