The South Burlington field hockey team has repeated as Vermont’s Division 1 State Champions. On Saturday, November 5, the top-seeded Rebels defeated 2nd-seeded Essex 4-2 at the University of Vermont’s Moulton-Winder Field. After giving up a goal just 5:45 into the game, the Rebels responded with four goals in seven minutes.
Kate Hall got the scoring going with a goal off a penalty sequence just three minutes after the Essex goal. Olivia Dickinson provided the assist. Three minutes later, Emma Liebegott gave South Burlington a 2-1 lead. Within the next minute of play, South Burlington went up 3-1 when Hall scored once again. Liebegott finished the Rebel scoring 1:24 later as Joan Vera contributed the assist on the last three goals.
The Hornets were able to find the net early in the second half, but the Rebel defense played tough the rest of the way and defended their title. Elizabeth Sargent finished with 10 saves for the Rebels, seven of which came in the second half.
Congratulations to the field hockey team on a great 16-1 season, and on bringing home the crown.
