Ava and Lila Hamme, both students at the Rick Marcotte Central School and daughters of Andrew and Amy Hamme of South Burlington, recently competed in the 26th annual United States of America Snowboard Association (USASA) National Championship held at Copper Mountain in Colorado.
Eleven-year-old Ava Hamme earned four top 10 finishes in her fourth consecutive USASA nationals, finishing eighth in Boardercross, ninth in Slalom and tenth in Giant Slalom in the girls Menehune (10-11) Division. She also placed sixth in Banked Slalom in the girls 10-13 age category.

Competing at a national level for the first time, seven year old Lila Hamme captured three top 10 finishes, tenth in Boardercross and in Slalom and seventh in Giant Slalom in the girls Ruggie (7 & Under) Division.

Both sisters ride with the Smugglers Notch Ski & Snowboard Club and compete locally at USASA events as part of the Northern Vermont Series. The Hammes give a special thank you to coaches Shay Manning, Emmet Manning, Rick Witham, and David Wood, along with teammate and mentor Olivia Shively from Jeffersonville, VT.
