Plan ahead for alternate routes this summer as road closures in South Burlington will require creative navigation to get from here to there and back again.

The closure of Hinesburg Road/VT Route 116 to through traffic between Williston Road and Kennedy Drive is scheduled to begin Thursday, July 13, although that date may change. The road will remain closed through the rest of the summer.

The VTrans project will replace the culvert at Potash Brook, impacting approximately 500 feet of the road by the sewer pump station. There will be no through traffic for automobiles until the completion of the project in September, but pedestrians and cyclists will be able to cross through the construction zone via a temporary bridge. All properties on either side of the closure will be accessible during the project; until the road is re-opened, drivers will need to access their Hinesburg Road destinations from either Williston Road or Kennedy Drive.

Market Street is also closed to through traffic for a culvert replacement project that began last week. This project marks the beginning of infrastructure work taking place in City Center. The road will be closed at its midway point until August 25. The section of Market Street between Dorset Street and Rick Marcotte Central School (RMCS) will remain open. The school and Recreation Department camp programs taking place at RMCS are accessible from Dorset Street.

The culvert replacement projects will help the the city come into compliance with EPA and state stormwater requirements as well as contribute to collective efforts by the state to clean up Lake Champlain.

Motorists are asked to use extreme caution while traveling through the work zones. The safety of the workers, pedestrians, and motorists is of the utmost importance.
