South Burlington School District (SBSD) Director of Student Activities Ed Hockenbury will be leaving his position with the district for the newly created position of Associate Director of Athletics for Internal Operations at University of Vermont.

Hockenbury, who just completed his second year with the district, will remain at SBSD for the start of the school year to launch the fall sports season, which begins next week with pre-season practices.

A press release from the district states that administrators are developing both short and long term plans to fill the position. Their goals include minimizing the impact of Hockenbury’s departure while maintaining the high quality of the district’s programs in physical education, health, student activities and athletics. An expedited search for an interim activities director to serve for the 2016-2017 school year will begin immediately, with an extensive search for a permanent replacement to begin early in 2017.

South Burlington High School Principal Patrick Burke said, “Our school greatly benefitted from Mr. Hockenbury’s time with us and we wish him well. I have complete faith that Interim Principal Pat Phillips and Assistant Principal Lissa McDonald will work with a temporary replacement to maintain the level of excellence the community deserves.”
