South Burlington High School senior Eddie Hockenbury was recently honored by the National Football Foundation, Vermont Chapter, at their annual awards ceremony held at Castleton State College. With over 300 in attendance, high school scholar football athletes from across the state of Vermont were recognized for their achievements both on and off the field. Hockenbury’s youth and high school coaches also attended to cheer him on. Howard Vandersea of the National Football Foundation presented Hockenbury with his certificate of recognition.
Jack Healey of the Northeast Sports Network commented on Hockenbury’s accomplishments, “A member of the National Honor Society, Boys State, and on the High Honor Roll, he is the son of Ed and Stephanie Hockenbury. He also plays basketball and baseball, and was honored as a captain this year. He started out with the South Burlington Dolphins youth team and high school coach Joe McDonald says that at the beginning of the season our offensive tackle tore his ACL and although Ed had always played offense, he took over that position at my request without complaint and led by example just like he does in everything he does. He is an intelligent, mentally tough individual who will be a great member of any adult life team he becomes a member of in the future. He also participated in many volunteer activities in school and the community.”
