The Friends of the Horticulture Farm present their 20th Annual Bloom-Time Festival and Spring Plant Sale on Saturday, May 16 at the University of Vermont’s (UVM) Horticulture Research and Education Center, also known as the “Hort Farm.”

Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy under the elms, savor the sweet smell of crabapples and lilacs, stroll through the flowering shrub collections, and observe the plein air painters at work. There will be music, face painting, hayrides, fairy houses to build, talks to increase your knowledge of gardening, and plenty of fun for the whole family. Special this year is a Bird Walk with Maeve Kim at 8:00 a.m., followed by coffee, tea, and muffins.

Plan to purchase your annual and veggie starts from the UVM Greenhouses, Master Gardeners, Farmer Training Program, and Catamount Farm booths. Everyone is welcome to attend this family friendly event that will be held rain or shine.

The Friends of the Horticulture Farm is a grassroots organization dedicated to protecting, enhancing, and promoting the significant plant collections and natural areas of the UVM Horticultural Research and Education Center in South Burlington for education, research, and public enrichment. Members include local garden clubs, master gardeners, professional horticulturists, landscape architects, gardeners, and people who love gardens.

In addition to fundraising and collections preservation, The Friends offer educational events and workshops for all gardeners throughout the year. There are programs on pruning shrubs and small trees, growing lilacs, building an evergreen hedge, soil health, perennials, and more. Future workshops this year include Why Ferns are Like a Persian Carpet, Edible Forest Gardens, Growing Orchids, Enhancing Pollinators in Your Garden, All About Bird Watching, Farm to Medicine, Herbal Stocking Stuffers and Winter Centerpieces, a Garden Tour in July, and our Annual Plant Sale on July 19.
