Congratulations to the Rebel softball team after their record-setting season. The team was one run away from the division one state finals after falling 5-4 to second-seeded Mt. Anthony in Bennington. Mt. Anthony would go on to defeat Essex in the state championship game. Katy Groen was 3-4 in the game with a run, and Brianna Belisle (two hits, one run, RBI) also contributed offensively.
Congratulations to the boys lacrosse team for a great season and their runner-up finish in the Vermont state championship game. On Saturday, the Rebels fell to CVU 10-8 at the University of Vermont. After a fast start from CVU with two goals in the first 48 seconds, the Rebels rallied quickly with goals from Calvin Hultgren and Paul O’Neil, and two goals from Max Capano. When the first quarter had finished, the Rebels were up 4-2. A back and forth second quarter finished with a 6-5 CVU lead. Nico Strempeck scored the Rebel goal. Nick Liscinsky’s goal kept the Rebels in the game in the third quarter, but CVU started to pull away. Hultgren fired in two more goals, bringing the score to 9-8 in favor of the Redhawks with seven minutes to go. CVU would score once more before time expired, and the Rebels fell for a second time at the hands of CVU.
The state championships for golf were held last week at Vermont National Country Club. South Burlington scored a 349 and was out of contention in the standings. The scorers were: Kyle McLane 82, Adam Sobczak 88, Jagr Rinehart 88, Carleton Plourde 91.
