Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) will present its annual awards next month during the 2013 PTR International Tennis Symposium. The event, which includes 50-plus on court and classroom presentations for tennis teachers and coaches, a trade show and tournament, is being held May 2-5 on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
Kim Mihan, of South Burlington, Vermont, has been named PTR Member of the Year for the State. This award is presented to a PTR member in the United States who has shown dedication and diligence in promoting and supporting tennis and PTR. She has served as host for certification workshops, so others can learn to properly teach tennis.
Mihan has been the Head Tennis Professional at Vermont National Country Club for 12 years. She integrates all that she has learned in 37 years of teaching to develop a welcoming and successful program for all ages and levels of abilities. She continues to seek new understandings of tennis coaching and to stay current in research based best practices.
She has been the Junior Varsity Coach for South Burlington High School for the past two years and is currently an assistant with the Varsity Team. Mihan also volunteers with the ‘Kids on the Ball’ program in the schools during the winter.
Mihan played collegiate tennis for Stephens College in Missouri, and played #1 singles for Springfield College in Massachusetts. She continues to enjoy playing competitive tennis on a 4.5 Vermont USTA League Team that has successfully represented Vermont at the National level.
