Hunter Lamore, a senior at South Burlington High School, drove home a new 2016 car from Burlington Subaru Hyundai, as part of their annual Drive for Excellence event. Drive for Excellence is in its ninth consecutive year of rewarding hard-working high school juniors and seniors with a chance to win a new car. Upon winning, Lamore said, “It was a huge surprise, but definitely a great one!”

For this year’s event, the staff at Burlington Subaru Hyundai sifted through the report cards of 547 students from 70 different high schools whose grades compiled the 13,438 entries this year. To enter, students supply their grades to the dealership along with an official report card. According to the Drive for Excellence rules, every ‘A’ earns two entries in the giveaway and one entry is given for every ‘B’ grade.

Lamore was chosen at random as one of the 75 finalists for this year’s event, subsequently entering into the raffle to be chosen as the 2016 winner. Once the winner is drawn, they have the opportunity to choose between a new Hyundai Elantra and a new Subaru Impreza. Lamore, who chose the Elantra, said, “I was not expecting my number to be called. I will for sure be bringing the new car to college with me as soon as I can.” Burlington Subaru Hyundai also awarded three $1,000 scholarships, raffled off at the event, courtesy of NBT Bank.

“It’s almost hard to believe that we just wrapped up our ninth straight year,” said Steve Kelson, general manager of Burlington Subaru Hyundai. “These students put so much effort into their grades and to be able to reward one with a new car, and three more with a $1,000 scholarship is huge. It’s definitely a gratifying experience for the students, but it’s always enormously rewarding for us too.”
Lamore will take her brand-new ride to Beverly, Mass. this fall, where she will be attending the Montserrat College of Art. “I’m just so proud of her,” said Tricia Lamore, Hunter’s mother. “I’m overwhelmed! I’m just so happy for her.”
