The South Burlington Land Trust (SBLT) recently held its 9th Annual Meeting. The meeting was well attended by members and their families. SBLT President Sarah Dopp presented a summary of the organization’s accomplishments over the past year in educating the public about conservation issues in South Burlington.
The highlight of the potluck evening was the presentation of the SBLT Annual Outstanding Achievement Award for 2011. This year’s recipient is Common Roots, a relatively young South Burlington based non-profit organization. Common Roots is making amazing strides both in educating children and the community about knowing where our food comes from and in promoting sustainable agriculture right here in South Burlington. Carol McQuillen, Common Roots Chair and inspirational founding member, accepted the award. Carol thanked the SBLT for this honor and shared some recent developments building on Common Roots’ continuing collaboration with the South Burlington School District, local farms, and Healthy Living. We wish Carol and Common Roots a bountiful harvest season!
The South Burlington Land Trust is dedicated to preserving South Burlington’s forests, wetlands, farmlands and other natural areas through landowner preservation agreements and other conservation vehicles to maintain City residents’ high quality of life.
