Andrew Levite, a junior at South Burlington High School is driving a brand-new Subaru Impreza which he won as part of Burlington Subaru Hyundai’s annual Drive for Excellence program. Drive for Excellence is in its seventh consecutive year of rewarding hard-working high school juniors and seniors with a chance to win a new car. Once the winner is drawn, they have the opportunity to choose between a new Hyundai Elantra and a new Subaru Impreza. Levite chose the Subaru.
Burlington Subaru Hyundai staff received the report cards of 554 students whose grades compiled the 14,211 Drive for Excellence entries this year. Levite was chosen at random as one of the 75 finalists and was entered into the raffle to be chosen as the 2014 winner. Students receive raffle tickets in proportion to their grades, i.e. an “A” grade earns 2 raffle tickets while a “B” grade earns just one, therefore the better one’s academic record, the better one’s chances are.
While there was a large element of chance, Andrew’s father Ed Levite reports that on the way to the event, Andrew said to his parents “I’m going to win that car.”
After winning the car, he said “This is the hardest year so far in high school. But all the hard work is worth it.”
In addition to being an excellent student, Levite is an all-seasons athlete, playing soccer as well as participating in both indoor and outdoor track. He’s also a member of the South Burlington Rotary Interact Club and CCS at SBHS.
“We were just floored,” said Andrew’s mother Lisa Levite after the event. “We just can’t believe it. It’s so amazing. I’m very proud of him; he’s worked very hard at school. This is just a great way to celebrate his achievements.”
This year, Burlington Subaru Hyundai added more prizes to the program in the form of two $1,000 scholarships which were drawn via raffle at the event and awarded to students from Missisquoi Valley Union High School and Champlain Valley Union High School.
