Congratulations to the South Burlington 11/12 Little League All Star baseball team for winning both the District 1 and VT State Little League championships. For the second year in a row, South Burlington will represent the state of Vermont in the New England Regional Tournament starting August 2 in Bristol, CT. 2013 marks the first time that South Burlington has won back to back state championships.
South Burlington went undefeated in district play unleashing a powerful offense responsible for 28 home runs while utilizing a deep pitching staff and stellar defense to limit opponents scoring opportunities.
South Burlington carried the momentum into the 4 team double elimination VT State Tournament getting early wins against Essex Town and Brattleboro and securing a spot in the championship game without a loss. South Burlington dropped the first game to Essex Town but came back strong in game two to hand Essex Town their second loss and take the VT state championship 11-6.
South Burlington will take 6 veteran and 6 newly minted state champions to Bristol, CT looking to advance farther than last year’s successful semi-final showing.
The A. Bartlett Giamatti Little League Leadership Training Center in Bristol, CT is the site for both the New England and Mid-Atlantic regional tournaments where 11 state championship teams will reside and play. The winner of each region will advance to play in the Little League World Series in South Williamsport, PA.
