Castleton State College senior Tyler Lord was honored as the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Player of the Year. Lord becomes the first Castleton player to receive this award since Ryan Zielinski in the 2012 season. In addition to his award, Lord, who hails from South Burlington, was named to the All-Conference First Team.
Lord set the table for the top offensive team in the NAC this season with a .373 batting average in the leadoff spot. In 41 games, the senior compiled 59 hits with nine doubles, 18 RBIs, 37 runs scored and a conference-leading 21 stolen bases. He also posted a .986 fielding percentage with just one error and three assists while starting all 41 games in centerfield.
This honor came after Lord was named NAC Player of the Week on April 30. Lord hit .400 in the leadoff spot in 11 games that week, as the Spartans swept NEC, Lyndon St. and Maine-Farmington. The senior set the table for the rest of the lineup with 16 hits, three doubles, five walks, seven RBIs, 12 runs scored and 15 stolen bases while striking out just twice. He recorded five multi-hit and seven multi-steal games in that span to help Castleton improve to 28-9 overall. This marks the second time in Lord’s career and that he was named the NAC Player of the Week.
