September 9, 2012, the Mahana Magic Foundation sponsored a fun-filled Ropes Course day for kids at the UVM Outdoor Adventure course in Farrell Park. South Burlington resident Cliff Deetjen, chairperson of the foundation, was excited that they had such a beautiful day for the fifteen kids that participated. The Outdoor Adventure instructors were terrific leaders and made the day wonderfully fun and purposeful for the kids with the encouragement of self confidence and team camaraderie. From the warm up games in the fields to the group events in the woods, the pace of the activities was thoughtful and remained exciting and interesting for all. The kids moved through a fun progression of problem-solving and trust activities and low challenge course elements. The activity that received the highest level of excited “whoo hoos” was the high level swing through the tall pines. We wrapped up the wonderful morning with a midday lunch together with entire families.
Through the winter, Mahana Magic sponsored several kid’s events at PetraCliffs in Burlington. The foundation looks forward to continuing to offer Ropes Course programs and will continue to offer them free of charge.
