Thursday January 29, 2015

The students of Orchard Elementary School spent Monday, January 19, celebrating the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. A quote from his last sermon was the central theme for the day; “Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.”

With the support of parent volunteers, Monica Nygaard-Ostby, Emily Bernard, and Charlene Palmer, students rotated through workshops which focused on diversity, acceptance, and service. They created finger-print art, listened to beautiful stories, sang songs about kindness and peace, and learned about Dr. King’s childhood, life, visions, and dreams. Special thanks to fifth grade presenters, Nora, Josie, Sriram, and Dylan. The entire school community gathered at the end of the day for a culminating assembly to celebrate and sing together.
