The softball team is continuing their excellent season and last week picked up two wins out of the three games they played. On Tuesday, May 16, they lost a close game to Colchester, 7-6 in Colchester. Anna Borrazzo pitched the entire game, while Sarah Brown (two runs), Kaity Groen (two runs, 2B), Liz Sargent, Abby Dubuque and Katie Bose each had two hits in the game.
The Rebels got back to their winning ways on Friday as they defeated CVU 2-0. South Burlington scored once in each of the first two innings as Zelie Condon-Layman had a triple and scored while stealing home. Anna Borrazzo then scored on a Sarah Brown sac fly for the final run. Liz Sargent and Kaity Groen also singled in the game. Borrazzo pitched a complete game with 12 strikeouts and only gave up three hits.
The next day, the Rebels pounded Mt. Abraham 16-1, bringing their season record to 10-4. Condon-Layman had the highlight of the day with a three-run shot in the fourth inning, and she also hit a triple and a single in the game. Liz Sargent, Sarah Brown, Brianna Belisle (four RBIs), and Katie Bose each had two singles. Kaity Groen earned a single and a double in the win. Borrazzo pitched another complete game for the Rebels. The Rebels regular season finale will be on May 26 against St. Johnsbury.
The Rebel baseball team was 1-1 last week. On Tuesday, May 16, they lost a close 5- 2 game at Colchester. South Burlington gave up five runs in the fourth inning and that’s all the Lakers would need for the win. Andrew Cunningham, Noah Barton and Sammy Premsagar (RBI) helped lead the Rebels to their two runs in the first inning.
Three days later, they pulled out a tight 5-4 win at home over CVU. At the bottom of the fifth inning, the Rebels found themselves in a 3-0 hole. The winning run was scored in the sixth inning by Andre Cunningham, and Jack Ambrosino earned the win for the Rebels. Premsagar and John Thibeault had two hits for South Burlington. The baseball team closes out the regular season on the road at St. Johnsbury on May 26.

The match came down to #4 singles player Ragulan Sivakuma who was playing with the match tied 3-3. Ragulan pulled out a decisive win and South Burlington won the match. This seems like a preview for a potential playoff matchup.

The Rebels finished the week with a 12-0 record on the season.
On Tuesday South Burlington Ultimate played both VCS and Colchester. The game against VCS was a tight one, and time ended the game a little early. VCS came out on top 10-8. SB’s eight goals came from seven different players for a balanced attack. Harry Hopper had two D’s on the game.
Against Colchester, the Rebels jumped out early and finished the game with a 13-1 score. Oliver Reckord-Groton and Spencer Pawlaczyk both had three goals, Luke Beatty threw for six assists and Prasidha Timsina had two D’s. The boys team plays again on May 30 under the lights against MMU, and the girls are in action at RMCS on May 25.
SB Girls Golf continues to grow with 16 golfers. Senior Co-captains Rachel Hill and Chelsea Reichard have been the leaders and most consistent scorers throughout the season, leading the Rebels to a 3rd place finish at Vermont National last week and a 4th place at Kwiniaska on Saturday, May 20. Sarah O’Rourke and Gretchen Nerber have also made strong contributions. The real story is the play of freshman Maddie Liebegott. After shooting a 61 in her first match ever at St. Johnsbury on Tuesday, she shot a team best this year, 54 at Kwiniaska. “She is one of the most promising freshmen that I have coached in my 18 years at SB,” said Coach Maley. “It will be fun to watch her progression on the golf course,” he added. The team travels to the West Bolton Golf Club on May 26.
On Monday, May 15, the boys golf team played at West Bolton Golf Club. The Rebels finished second behind MMU in the four-team event.
South Burlington’s scorers were: Kyle McLane 80, Carleton Plourde 89, Adam Sobczak 89, Joey Geremia 96, Jagr Rinehart 87.
The boys team plays in the NVAC Championships on May 25 at Williston.

The girls lacrosse team is continuing their fantastic regular season after picking up two strong wins last week against two division-one opponents. On Tuesday, May 16, the Rebels traveled to Essex and defeated the Hornets 17-11. Willow Yager and Annika Nielsen had dominate games, striking for five goals each. Dakota Crane added three goals while Ava Hultgren scored two and dished an assist. Goalie Claire Phillips made four saves.
Three days later, the Rebels topped CVU 13-9, led by Nielsen’s five goals and Dakota Crane’s four. The host Rebels were also driven by the efforts of Kimmy Norris (two goals), Hultgren (goal, two assists), and Yager (goal, assist). Phillips secured 18 saves in the win and the Rebels finished the week 12-1.
Their next game is on the road at Burlington on May 27.
The boys lacrosse team picked up two wins last week and finished the week with a 13-0 record on the season. On Wednesday, May 17, they defeated Essex 13-7 in Essex and on Friday, the Rebels cruised to a 10-1 win over Colchester. Ryan Hockenbury secured 12 saves in the first game, while teammate Myles French stopped Colchester with six saves. Calvin Hultgren finished the week with four goals and two assists while Nick Liscinsky had three goals and three assists. Steve Cone, Max Capano, (two assists), and Nick Strempek struck twice for the Rebels. Dylan LeClair (assist), Colin Johnson (assist) and Hayden Stech scored once. The team travels to Hinesburg to take on CVU on May 26.
