South Burlington’s Joe Merone, a senior producer at Vermont Public Television (VPT), was inducted into the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) Boston/New England Chapter’s 2012 Silver Circle at a celebration held Nov. 28 in Boston, Mass.
NATAS inducted Merone and four others into the 2012 Silver Circle and broadcaster Chet Curtis, with 50 years of service, into the Gold Circle.
The Gold and Silver Circles honor television professionals who have performed distinguished service within the industry for more than 25 years. Jill D. Jones of NATAS said, “They are honored for making an enduring contribution to the vitality of the television industry.”
Joe Merone began his professional career at Vermont Public Television in 1980 after graduating from The State University of New York at Oswego in 1979. Dedicated to public broadcasting, he has been a production technician, staff director, producer and executive producer. He has produced magazine-style programs, sports, public affairs and documentaries for both local and national distribution. Nominated for multiple Emmy awards, he was a contributing producer on VPT productions that won Emmys.
In his community, Joe has volunteered in numerous capacities. An Eagle Scout, he served his local Boy Scouts of America chapter, has been a mentor and advocate for young adults with disabilities and has served on boards, including local public access television.
