Two Prince Productions, in collaboration with Bill Reed Voice Studio and Jen and Tim Barden of Spotlight Vermont, will present Calvin Berger: A Musical at Spotlight’s studio on San Remo Drive. The performances will be Friday and Saturday, January 13 and 14, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, January 15, at 4 and 7p.m. All proceeds from the production will benefit Special Olympics Vermont through the organization’s Penguin Plunge event on February 4, when more than 1,200 brave participants will jump into the icy waters of Lake Champlain to support sports training and competition for athletes with intellectual disabilities.

Calvin Berger is a contemporary musical adaptation of the classic French play Cyrano de Bergerac, one of the most famous romances of all time. With book, lyrics, and music written by Barry Wyner, it cleverly retells the Cyrano story of unrequited feelings, love notes, and physical insecurity in the high school setting.

The musical features South Burlington High School (SBHS) students Victoria Fearn and Rebecca Gardner, as well as Jonathan Barden from Colchester High School and Sam Dickin from Rice Memorial High School. The donated proceeds will be directed to the Special Olympics Vermont Penguin Plunge teams representing the actors’ three schools.

Gina Fearn is the artistic director of Calvin Berger. Since moving to Vermont, Fearn has directed theatre at SBHS and Folsom School, as well as working as a teaching artist at the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts and co-directing the Flynn Summer Youth Theatre Company. Music direction is by Randal Pierce, who will also be directing Spring Awakening for the University of Vermont this coming season. Sally Olson, managing director at Bill Reed Voice Studio, is in charge of implementing show promotion and publicity.
