Avni Nahar, a graduating senior at South Burlington High School was awarded a $10,000 scholarship as the Vermont state winner of the 2013 AXA Achievementsm Scholarship in association with U.S. News & World Report.

The winners, known as AXA Achievers, are featured online at usnews.com.  Scholarships are awarded to one graduating high school senior  per state who has demonstrated ambition and drive, as well as determination to set and reach goals and the ability to succeed in college. The scholarship program is administered by Scholarship Management Services.

Avni formed an arts and literary magazine at SBHS, and recruited students to join the editorial board.  Working with the board, she advertised to students to submit work and selected the best pieces from the submissions which were then published in a magazine that was distributed to the entire student body.  Avni is also a member of the Student Council, Debate Team and National Honor Society.
Charles Dinklage, a former SBHS graduate, currently a local financial advisor with AXA Advisors, presented Ms. Nahar with the award.
