Do you have a knack for names? Do you traverse South Burlington wondering about street name origins? Well, now is the time to put those ideas to good use! The South Burlington Planning Commission is seeking input for naming a proposed City Center street, currently being referred to as Street A. An application before the Development Review Board (Trader Joe’s) is triggering the need for a name. This street will ultimately cross Market Street and serve as one of the main roadways in City Center. It will connect Dorset Street at Healthy Living to Williston Road via Midas Drive.
There are, of course guidelines: Names must be distinctive: i.e., they must not resemble other street names in Burlington or South Burlington for emergency response purposes. Names must be less than 13 characters in length (including spaces and suffixes) to fit on signs. Finally, names may not refer to corporations.
Although, the Planning Commission will make the final decision on the name, they want lots of input from you! Name suggestions can be submitted via the City’s Facebook page or by e-mailing planning commission staff: email@example.com.
