Maggie Leugers has been hired as the new Director of Recreation & Parks for the City of South Burlington. Leugers will fill the position which Betsy Terry has occupied temporarily for the past three months as the Interim Director. Leugers comes from the City of Burlington where she currently serves as the Superintendent of Recreation.
City Manager, Kevin Dorn shared, “We’re excited to have Maggie join our Management Team, and look forward to her starting in this capacity on March 30th. Maggie brings a wonderful and varied skill set to the position and we’re eager to have her join the ranks with our group of outstanding Department Heads.”
A nine-member community panel recommended Leugers as the unanimous top choice. Chair of the Recreation and Leisure Arts Committee Glenn Sproul served on the panel. He said, “I’m thrilled and relieved that we have found someone who will carry on the wonderful and proud tradition of an exceptional Recreation Department here in our Community! Maggie certainly represents the quality and leadership we are seeking.”
Leugers has her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Community Recreation from the University of Cincinnati, and has received numerous professional leadership awards throughout her career. Deputy City Manager, Tom Hubbard has known her for many years. “Maggie is a true collaborator passion and commitment is top-notch, and will bring real value to both the position and the Department,” he said.
