The Orchard School winning team and their coaches, Hetal and Yogesh Patel, participated in The 2016 Vermont Odyssey of The Mind (OM) State Tournament held March 19. Teammates Lav Patel, Sten Woodward, Esabella Amoah, Vineet Koushal, and Bea Hopper, were among hundreds of students from around Vermont who participated in the international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. The Orchard School team won the Stack Attack! (Division 1) competition. OM teams compete in spontaneous problems, which resemble timed improvisation activities, and long-term problems that are timed skits performed under strict time limits and produced under a specified budget. According to first time team coach Hetal Patel, “Our team picked up the spontaneous part very quickly, but the long term solution was more of a challenge. In the end, our hard work paid off!” She adds, “Many thanks to Miss Baron who let us practice in her classroom for these many months.”
