On Friday, January 18th the Orchard School Community celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a special visit from motivational speaker Sheryl Garner.  Garner spent time in workshops with each grade.  The students learned that Alfred Nobel, who invented dynamite, used his fortune to start the Nobel Peace Prize.  Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964, and the day’s workshops were focused on a quote from his acceptance speech, “Peace is more precious than diamonds, or silver or gold.”  The day concluded with an all-school assembly including songs and final thoughts.  A video summarizing the day’s events is posted on the Orchard School website.
