On Thursday, October 6, students at Orchard Elementary School participated in We Give Book’s (http://www.wegivebooks.org/) fifth annual “Read for the Record.” For this project, the Pearson Foundation and Penguin books had set a goal of donating 50,000 books to children in 200 needy school districts across the United States. Each time a book was read online, a new book would be donated. Students at Orchard joined in, attempting to help break two world records—largest shared reading experience and most people reading a book online in a single day. As school ended on the 6th, well over 700 books had been donated by Orchard School students. The students in Ms. McCray’s class (pictured above) and the other students and staff at Orchard School hope to hear that two world records were set also.
