For the second year in a row, the SBHS Rebel Chefs team cooked up a winning recipe at the Vermont Junior Iron Chef competition held last Saturday.
The team’s “BBQ Faux Joes Sliders with Red Cabbage-Celery-Root-Apple Slaw and Kale Chips” took the “Lively Local” award, for best highlighting Vermont foods.
Pictured at left, the Rebel Chefs (sophomores Sara Ruch, Meghan Boucher, Maraika Lumholdt, Zoe Hulce, and Courtney Banach) celebrate their victory with assistant chef Laura Wright (far left) and coach/chef Nina Lesser-Goldsmith (far right), both of Healthy Living Market. Over 70 teams competed in the fifth annual event, which aims to involve students in creating dishes using seasonal local foods, that can be served in schools.
