The children were eager to explore their new classrooms and meet their teachers during Rick Marcotte Central School’s (RMCS) Back to School Open House. The halls were bustling with excitement and laughter as students reconnected with friends after the long summer break. For some families it was their first open house at the school; for others it was one of many. One family commented that over the years, they have attended more than 10 open houses with their children attending RMCS.
The day began with the kindergarteners discovering all of their new surroundings. The children had the opportunity to meet their teachers, explore the classrooms and spend some time on the playground. New parents and students also had an opportunity to take a practice bus ride in preparation for the first day of school.
For the older students, open house was a time to reconnect with old friends while welcoming new friends to Rick Marcotte Central School. One first grade student commented “I have my very own desk this year”! The children were excited to choose their cubbies, meet their new classmates and learn about what specials they will have each day.
Not only is open house a fun social event for the students to start the new school year, but also a time for parents to share summer memories and reminisce about past school years gone by. For teachers and staff, it was a time to welcome new students into their classrooms and also visit with former RMCS students attending the open house with their siblings.
