In a 9/11 tradition 14 years in the making, members of the community and public officials joined South Burlington Fire Fighters, EMS and Police Officers in a remembrance ceremony honoring the public safety personnel who gave their lives during the terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. The Friday, September 11 event at Overlook Park, which is organized each year by the fire department was well attended. The park, with Lake Champlain in the distance, provided a striking backdrop as the Color Guard presented the flag. Patriotic songs were provided by The Champlain Echoes. Words of recognition and gratitude were offered in appreciation for the dedicated service of our own community’s first responders, and speakers reflected on the heroic deeds of those that perished while trying to protect the lives of others.
