Lyric Theatre Company is proud to present Broadway’s revolutionary rock opera RENT. Set in the East Village of New York City in the early 1990’s, RENT is about falling in love, finding your voice, and living for today. Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, RENT has become a pop cultural phenomenon with songs that rock and a story that resonates with adults of all ages. Based loosely on Puccini’s La Boheme, Jonathan Larson’s RENT follows a year in the life of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York’s Lower East Side, under the shadow of HIVAIDS.
The 24-member cast of this local production hails from ten Vermont communities. Cast members from South Burlington are Sarah Grant, Michael Hutchins, and Fabienne Nadeau.
While the cast is rehearsing, many volunteers are working behind the scenes. Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are building and painting sets, designing props, sewing costumes, marking lighting cues, preparing hair and make-up designs, and doing other tasks necessary to mount the $100,000+ production. Team and crew members from South Burlington include producer Erin Evarts, costume designer Kerry Farrell, lighting designer Leigh Sweet, master electrician and special effects Andy Pearson, promotions co-chairs Noa and Rosalind Saunders, costume construction co-chair Debbie Maple, and costumers Karen Johnson and Maryann Lisak.
During the November 8th – 11th period there will be five performances of RENT including matinees at 2pm on Saturday and Sunday. Curtain time is 7:30pm Thursday through Saturday. The matinee performance on Saturday, November 10th, will be audio-described for the blind/visually impaired.
Tickets for RENT are on sale through the Flynn Center Regional Box Office in Burlington; by telephone: 802/86FLYNN; or online: www.flynntix.org.
