On a warm, sunny February morning, the 2

nd grade students at RMCS joined together in song while performing for the residents of Pillsbury Senior Communities. Dressed with pride in their orange CARES t-shirts, the students sang and performed for over 20 Pillsbury Senior Communities residents and Rick Marcotte Central School parents under the direction of Music teacher Rosemary Holloway. Excitement and laughter filled the community room as the residents listened intently while the 2nd graders sang songs such as "Carolina in the Morning," "Moonlight Bay," "Smiles," and "When You’re Smiling." An impressive performance of Bye Bye Blackbird was led by 2nd

grader Madeleine Magnant. Perhaps the most enjoyable part of the morning was when the students recited and signed The Pledge of Allegiance. The morning ended with the children presenting Danish Christmas Hearts to the Pillsbury Senior Communities residents. They also had the opportunity to shake hands with each of them and say good-bye. It was truly an amazing and heartfelt experience for everyone.

Pillsbury Senior Communities Activities Director Kathleen Cote said that, "The residents and staff of Pillsbury Manor look forward to the children’s visit and it looks as though the children are excited too. Second graders, under the direction of their music teacher, Rosemary Holloway, and their classroom teachers, have come to visit us for several years now and are always so well prepared. We thank them all for their wonderful program and time spent with us."

This year marks the fourth year that the 2

grade classes at RMCS have been performing at Pillsbury Senior Communities. A nursing home atmosphere is a good place to share the gift of music. It truly has made a difference in the lives of the residents at Pillsbury Senior Communities and the children at Rick Marcotte Central School.

As we move into spring, there are many exciting events sponsored by RMCS PTO. Our Luau themed Scholastic Book Fair will open Tuesday evening, April 3rd with a special reading and book signing by author Pam Flowers, a children’s author specializing in expedition tales. In its 40

th year, the Annual Spring Fair and Silent Auction will take place on Friday, April 13th

. Many thanks to the local businesses for their individual donations in support of Rick Marcotte Central School for this much anticipated community wide event.

Please join us for the next PTO meeting on Wednesday, March 14

, 2012 from 6:30 – 7:45 pm in the Art Room at RMCS. http://central.sbschools.net/pto/.
