Dig through your closet, grab your ugliest, tackiest, craziest holiday sweater and get ready to run with the big dogs. From dancing snowmen to dangling jingle bells, the gaudy holiday sweaters that were once considered fashionable are making a comeback. Not on the “run-way,” but at the Ugly Sweater Fun Run, Sunday, December 10, at Veterans Memorial Park in South Burlington. The event is produced by South Burlington Rotary to benefit their community projects as well as the Humane Society of Chittenden County’s popular summer Camp Paw Paw program. Onsite registration opens at 10 a.m., the 5K run/2.5K walk starts at 11 a.m., and the Ugly Holiday Sweater judging begins at 12:30 p.m. with prizes to be awarded in several categories.
The Ugly Sweater Committee includes many South Burlington residents who are also Rotarians with Jay Pasackow serving as the leader of the pack. George Donovan is heading the volunteer recruitment effort. New Rotarian Samantha Wendel is thrilled with the event as her family has a long tradition of “ugly” sweater donning for the holidays. Pasackow says, “It is going to be a terrific event for all and we expect a great showing of families and teams.”
Participants at the First Annual Ugly Sweater Fun Run and Walk receive a photo booth picture, a commemorative hat, and prizes for the best ugly sweater, along with complimentary food and beverages. The entire family is welcome, including pets, who are encouraged to dress up too.
