May 2 will be the 45th Green Up Day in Vermont. The South Burlington Land Trust (SBLT) is once again organizing the effort. President of the SBLT Board of Directors, Sarah Dopp notes, “We always have a strong showing, which is appropriate for the community where the Green Up Day founder, Bob Babcock, lived! After an especially punishing winter, everyone will be eager to get out in the fresh air and have fun with family and friends to beautify our city.”
The South Burlington Green Up Day headquarters will be the beautiful new parking lot at City Hall (575 Dorset Street) where volunteers will be available from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to help you stow your trash into the trucks and dumpsters. There will be displays, a big map to track our progress, free food, and contests with prizes. If you would like to organize a work or civic group to work together greening up an area, please call Karen Ryder (802-864-8206) who is organizing the teams. We can make suggestions of spots to clean or you can choose a place. If you are going to work solo or with your family, please call Sarah Dopp (802-985-3581) so we can keep track of the areas being covered. Bags will be available at City Hall after the middle of April.
Dopp adds, “We want to tidy up as much of the city as possible in this spring cleaning of the great outdoors! Let’s see if we can exceed our recent collections of 4.5 tons of material in 2014 and 5.1 tons in 2013.”
