The South Burlington Dolphins recently traveled to rival Essex Junction whose team is coached by former Dolphin, Tony Arcovitch – always a special game on a spectacular football Saturday morning with fog rolling off the river.
Essex had the Dolphins down 12-0 at half-time and then the Dolphins decided they weren’t to be denied. Led by a determined offensive line – LT Dustin McGrath, LG Bailey Finnegan, C Miles French, RG Eric Imobersteg, RT Noah LaDeau and a man of many positions - TE Ryan Hockenbury, the running backs and Shane Tenney started pounding out yards. When the defense started creeping up to stop the running game, QB Ryan Sargent found one of his favorite receivers Ben Moran streaking down the sidelines for 2 touchdowns. The stellar defense had spectacular plays by Andrew Cunningham with an interception and two knock down passes that surely would have been touchdowns. Brandyn Wells had a Kodak moment when he broke up a sure touchdown. Matt Mostyn had 2 interceptions, running one back to the three yard line with DE Jeff Arnold and NG Robbie Mafuta were able to corral Essex offense. Noah Bradford stepped in at the last minute – with a first attempt at ever kicking a football. To everyone’s delight his kick was a sight to behold, pinning Essex deep in their own end of the field, letting the defense finish off the game. They won 13-12.
