Dozens of guests gathered on October 12 at Rick Marcotte Central School for an early morning celebration of both new and returning mentors in SB Mentoring, the South Burlington School District school-based mentoring program in Chamberlin, Orchard, and Rick Marcotte Central elementary schools. Superintendent David Young offered words of welcome to those in attendance.
Chamberlin School Principal Holly Rouelle reflected after the event, “Thank you for a wonderful start to the day. It was truly inspirational to be amongst the mentors. It’s apparent that the mentoring program is having as big an impact on the mentors as it is on the mentees.”
In its second year, the program has grown to have thirty-six teams of mentees and mentors (twelve in each elementary school). The mission of SB Mentoring is to match wonderful children with wonderful community adults to help children find their “sparks”: their passions and interests (quotation from The Search Institute).
SB Mentoring is actively recruiting new mentors for January 2013 at the elementary school level and for September 2013 at the middle school level.
