The SB High School Alumni Office sponsored a grand event this past weekend to culminate a year-long celebration of SBHS’s 50th Birthday. Many alumni, former staff, community members and current staff attended an Open House Friday evening at SBHS, which included tours of the High School given by current SBHS students; both students and alumni enjoyed sharing stories with one another. The event included a 50th-year display provided by SBHS art students, a wonderful food display provided by SBHS nutritional service, and the Rebel Boosters sold 50th t-shirts.  The attendees enjoyed meeting up with friends and checking out old yearbooks. Beltrami Studios was present taking pictures and one of the highlights of the evening was having Amy Bond and Richard Cassidy pose for a picture. Cassidy is the current Chair of the SB School Board and Ms. Bond was a member of the first school board in SB in the early ’60s.

Various SBHS alumni enjoyed picnics at Oakledge park on Saturday afternoon, some participated in the Buley Family Golf Tournament where funds were raised for an SBHS Scholarship. Saturday evening was a spectacular event held at the Sheraton. The food was grand, decade music was provided by Top Hat Entertainment. The highlight of the evening was a special video presentation highlighting many great memories of SBHS’s last 50 years. The film was made especially for this event by Mt. Mansfield Media and included interviews from former and current SBHS employees and students, and highlighted each of the last five decades at SBHS.  Overall the weekend was a great success and as always with any reunion the best part for all was reminiscing with former classmates, friends and teachers. One alumni commented that this event was very special because unlike a regular reunion, where you get together with your classmates, this event brought people together from all five decades to share a common bond and to celebrate a great place, South Burlington High School.
