This April marked the 19th year of South Burlington High School’s (SBHS) Annual Career/Job EXPO, sponsored by the Career Development Center (CDC). The EXPO is a community-wide event where companies throughout Chittenden County and beyond are invited to set up a booth in the gymnasium and offer students advice and information about potential career fields they could pursue. Led by a team of SBHS students and Christine Lundie, the new CDC coordinator, this year’s EXPO continued the high school’s tradition of exposing students to future opportunities.

This year’s Career/Job EXPO welcomed companies both new and old. With over 70 companies representing nearly 20 career categories, the gym was packed with everything from healthcare professionals to activists and authors. Some notable new companies to join the fold included Sisters of Anarchy Ice Cream - complete with an ice cream cart, Democracy Vermont, and the Vermont Comedy Club. Other veterans like Champlain Orthodontic Associates, Vermont Air National Guard, and GLOBALFOUNDRIES also returned to connect with students. Company representatives complimented the layout and set up of the event as one of the best around. They were also impressed with the attentiveness of student ambassadors and the quality of conversations with student attendees. One guest said, “It was a fulfilling experience, but my feet are killing me.”

The Career/Job EXPO gives students an opportunity to explore the different career paths that are available to them and to gauge what fields might hold their interest. One SBHS alumna now works for the company she was an ambassador for back in high school. In addition to engaging with the wide range of companies, students were also able to potentially walk away with a number of prizes. Companies raffled off everything from t-shirts, to a teddy bear, to a variety of gift cards. In addition to the company raffles, students attending the EXPO were also eligible to win grand prizes of a Dell tablet and iPad donated by Comcast.

The 20th Annual Career/Job Expo will be held April 2, 2019. Companies interested in attending for the first time should contact the South Burlington Career Development Center Coordinator, Christine Lundie:
